SUPER BOWL WEEKEND.....

THIS SUNDAY MARKS ONE OF THE COUNTRY'S BIGGEST "NON-HOLIDAYS" OF THE YEAR: THE SUPER BOWL! #42 FOR THOSE KEEPING COUNT.

No matter how many times I say it, I still have trouble believing that my beloved NEW YORK GIANTS are in the SUPER BOWL against what a team that some say is the BEST ever to play the game. So who is really under pressure? The team that is SUPPOSED TO win and finish the season 19-0? Or the team that many thought would barely get into the playoffs? I have to admit that I am playing with house money right now. I am usually counting down the days to when pitchers and catchers report to spring training by now (like those NEW YORK JET fans usually do by the 6th game of the football season).

I apologize for riding the excitement of my Giants on the Kiwanis blog, but we can certainly draw comparisons to the perceived "DAVID & GOLIATH" Super Bowl teams to those we help in Kiwanis where the odds seems so stacked against those we help, that all they need is a little support. Sometimes we need to look in the mirror and help ourselves first. That help can come in many forms.

Just to name a few: BRANDON BESTER, FAMILIES AND "KIDS" OF POSITIVELY KIDS, FAMILIES OF SHADE TREE, THE RECIPIENTS OF OUR HOLIDAY BASKETS, THE ANONYMOUS RECIPIENTS OF THE DOLLARS WE POUR BACK INTO THE LAS VEGAS COMMUNITY, AND ON AND ON AND ON.....

RIDDLE ME THIS BATMAN?

But why do we continue to do this? Does it make us feel better to help others? Do we do it because it is the in thing to do? Do we do it just to see our friends and there is no other time? Do we do it for the tax donations we get? The reasons are as many as there are stars in the sky.

LEAVE YOURSELF A NOTE:

NEXT TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 5TH, IS THE SCHEDULED "LT. GOVERNOR VISIT" TO OUR CLUB. LTG. DAVE PALMER WILL BE OUR SPEAKER. WE WANT TO ENCOURAGE A GREAT TURNOUT SO PLEASE BE WITH US NEXT WEEK AS WE WELCOME DAVE.

ALSO COMING UP IN THE MONTH IS THE OFFICAL GOVERNOR'S VISIT ON SATURDAY FEBRUARY 23RD. DETAILS ARE STILL BEING FINALIZED BUT COSTS ARE GOING TO KEPT TO AROUND $25/TICKET.

Overdue Congrats to Roy who has been voted in as our new "President-Elect". Roy took over for Cory Fuqua who moved out of state earlier this year.

President Teri is looking for one more volunteer to take over the vacated seat of Linda Marx who has resigned from The Lakes and joined Greater Henderson Kiwanis. You will only have 6 meetings to sit in on to finish this year. Please contact Teri to offer your services.

We also completed an Interclub outing with the Las Vegas Club last Wednesdat at Marie Callanders.

Last week's Shade Tree went very well. Teri, Steve, Ilene, Staci, Elyssa, Sandy, Melissa, Roy, Rebecca and Cameron all helped out. There were also 4 Circle-K members helping out.

March 8th is the "Key-lympics". Check out the "Comments Box" from the last posting for more details.

As I type this, about 400 more " KOLOR OUR KOMMUNITY" packets are being assembled at tonight's meeting.

As more details become available, the Blog will be updated so keep checking it out.

ON TO 2008

WELL THE TITLE SAYS IT ALL...ON TO 2008

THE LAST FEW WEEKS HAS BEEN VERY BUSY FOR THE CLUB. WE PUT TOGTHER HOLIDAY BASKETS AND COLLECTED CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR THE BREWSTER FAMILY AND OTHERS.

BY NOW YOU SHOULD HAVE READ THE E-MAIL THAT PRINCIPAL MILLS FROM BUNKER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SENT. IT CERTAINLY HELPS TO REMIND US OF WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO.

WE EVEN FOUND TIME TO CELEBRATE AS WELL AS WE HAD OUR CLUB'S ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY AT THE GRUNDSTEDT'S CHATEAU. THE HIGHLIGHT BEING OUR USUAL "WHITE ELEPHANT" GIFT EXCHANGE. THOSE WHO CAME HAD ALOT OF FUN. (IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO HAVE THOSE WE HAVE NOT SEEN IN A WHILE JOIN US, BUT PERHAPS 2008 WILL CHANGE THAT.)

AS YOU LOOK FORWARD TO 2008, WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN MIND TO ACCOMPLISH

WHATEVER IT IS, BE SURE TO START IT OFF WITH A SAFE NEW YEAR'S CELEBRATION WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY OR AT HOME WITH LOVED ONES.

SEE YOU IN 2008 ON THE 8TH
